Farm and Tractor Days – May 9-10

image10It’s the Rio Linda/Elverta Historical Society’s 20th annual Farm and Tractor Days, set for Friday and next Saturday at the Dry Creek Ranch House. Featuring vintage tractors, hayrides, farm animals, crafts fair and more, the event is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. Suggested donation is $3 per car.

Among the attractions at this annual celebration of Sacramento’s rural roots is the historical society’s Pioneer Memorial Rose Garden. According to volunteer Candace Taylor, nearly 100 rose bushes are in their first flush of bloom. “The varieties, ranging from old garden roses to floribunda to hybrid teas, represent a labor of love for two local residents that began in 1995, the year the rose garden was planted,” she said.

Adena Kalal, who founded the rose garden, and Emmie Makishima, a founding member of the historical society, continue to demonstrate a deep commitment to keeping the Pioneer Memorial Rose Garden healthy and blooming, Taylor said.
