Excessive Speeds Result in Deadly Accident

Rio Linda Online finally got the final report on last Friday’s accident and fire, resulting in the death of the driver.

According to the California Highway Patrol, On July 26, 2019 at approximately 3:12 PM the CHP received reports of a solo vehicle vs. tree traffic collision with the vehicle on fire at U Street and Maldive Street.

CHP Officers arrived on scene and found a 2007 Toyota Prius had left the roadway, collided with a tree, and was fully engulfed.

Despite the efforts of local area residents and the Sacramento Metro Fire Department, the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, a 43 year old woman from Rio Linda, was trapped in the vehicle and did not survive the collision.

Witnesses reported the Prius had been driving westbound on “U” Street at an extreme high rate of speed when she lost control of her car, went off the roadway, collided with the tree, and it immediately burst into flames.

The driver was later identified by the Sacramento County Coroner as Danita Gipson of Rio Linda.

It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor in this collision. No further information is available at this time.
