2021 Crop and Livestock Report Released

During her presentation of the 2021 Sacramento County Crop and Livestock Report at the Nov. 8 Board of Supervisors Meeting, Agriculture Commissioner, Chris Flores reported that the gross value of all agricultural products in Sacramento County was more than $568 million, up 20% from $455 million in 2020! 

Once again, wine grapes were the leading cash crop in Sacramento County, with a value of more than $204 million, or nearly 36% of the total gross value of all crops. More than 37,800 acres of wine grapes were harvested in Sacramento County in 2021. 

Milk held on to the number two spot with a total value of more than $66 million, while pears jumped up to the number three spot with a roughly $19 million increase over 2020 numbers. 

“For the second year in a row, we have incorporated all of our commodity and programmatic statistics within a beautifully designed calendar. This year’s report and calendar highlights some of our local agricultural producers and operators to highlight the important role the agricultural community plays in our county.”

Top 10 Agricultural Commodities in 2021

  1. ​Wine grapes: $204,436,000
  2. Market milk: $66,624,000
  3. Pears: $45,072,000
  4. Nursery Stock (ornamental trees and plants, Christmas trees​ and sod): $34,878,000
  5. Poultry: $26,510,000
  6. Cherries: $20,557,000
  7. Aquaculture (bass, carp, catfish, crayfish, sturgeon and caviar): $18,524,000
  8. Hay/Alfalfa: $18,028,000
  9. Field corn: $16,482,000
  10. Cattle and calves: $15,604,000

The 2021 report includes a list of local Certified Farmer’s Markets and a 2023 calendar with full-color illustrations.​
