Ernest James Dyer 1948-2018

Ernest James Dyer 1948-2018

Born March 22nd, 1948, Coos Bay Oregon.

Died peacefully in his home, on his terms, January 11, 2018, Elverta California.

Ernest “Ernie” Dyer, son of Ernest and Wilma (Reker) Dyer, spent most of his youth in Elverta California and graduated from Rio Linda High School, class of 1967. Ernie joined the Marines during the Vietnam War. Always a man who wanted to enter challenge on his own terms, he joined the toughest branch rather than be drafted. He inspired those around him: fierce work ethic, dedication to family and to live life fearlessly. A brilliant machine designer and inventor, Ernie spent his life creating. Some highlights include 20 foot speakers, racing boats, a sandbagging machine and a BBQ Bull with fans to vent the smoke out the bull’s nose, his mind was awhirl with possibilities. Ernie was known for his friendly demeanor, willingness to help strangers (once catching fire to himself and his boat to do so), and thirst for life and adventure. He loved speed skating, road bikes, downhill skiing and driving his boats. Ernie was a dedicated and loving father. He attended endless horse shows and concerts for both his daughters. He was quick with a smile, loved a great pun and could spin a tall tail with a twinkle in his eye that left his listeners wondering how much was true, but delighting in the telling all the same.

Ernie is survived by his lifelong love and wife, Sara Greenwood, daughters Felicia Weatherly and Sharon Bennett, Son-in-laws Jeff Weatherly and Christopher Bennett, siblings Roger Dyer, Shirley Breckenridge and William Dyer, and grandchildren Makaila Gates, Samuel and Colton Weatherly. He is preceded in death by his parents and beloved grandson, Dillon Weatherly. A Celebration of Life will be held at Fire Station 116 on February 17th from 1-4pm Guests are encouraged to share memories of his life, as Ernie always loved a great story.
