Everything Oak is New Again!

For as long as I remember, the Creekside Diner has been the place to go for breakfast in Rio Linda and Elverta.

I know, I know… it’s hasn’t always been the Creekside Diner. There’s a long history, from Mister M’s in the early 80’s, to whatever it was after that, to the widely acclaimed and beloved Oak Tree Diner.  If you snoop around the internet review sites, you’ll see comments like “I’ve eaten at Oak Tree numerous times and have never had a bad meal.” and “They have great breakfasts at affordable prices and the service is excellent.”

I’m glad to report that after the Draper family has taken over (as of last month) and the name has been changed, very little else has. Long-time waitress Julia Draper is now the owner-manager, and seems to be doing all the right things.

The wait and bus staff are friendly, taking the time to talk to the regulars, The prices are easy on the pocket, and the food is really… just as good as it ever was.

I had the breakfast scramble special, and I was so happy with the biscuits. Light and crumbly, but stands up to the chunky sausage gravy very well. Scrambled eggs piled on top of a sausage patty with hash browns on the side. Plenty of sausage, plenty of pepper, and the new standard for that old Rio Linda staple. As good or better than BG’s locally famous sausage and gravy. (Hurry back BG’s… we miss you!)

My wife had a regular cheeseburger with curly fries. She seemed to like it enough that she wouldn’t let me have a bite. She didn’t take home a box, if that’s any indication.

My son had a stack of pancakes. Fluffy and buttery, they soaked up the syrup (served warm in a tiny mason jar) an filled my unfillable teenager.

I have to mention the glass of milk I always get with breakfast… The glass is frozen, and the milk forms a bit of ice on the surface and along the sides. It is a little touch that keeps me coming back.

My very favorite part is the prices. Brunch for 3 for under $25 dollars? Yes please!

So, even though the business has changed hands and changed names, don’t hesitate to stop in. The Creekside Diner is just as good as it ever was, and has every opportunity, and probability, to get better.
