On May 3, 2018, the department’s High Risk Probation Unit (HRP Unit) received information that a subject on felony probation, was living at an unreported residence located in 6000 block of 10th Street in Rio Linda. Additional information indicated that at this resident had a large Marijuana grow in the garage and was in possession of two firearms. The HRP Unit referred the case to the Prop 63 unit for further investigation. Officers from both units worked collaboratively to contact and detain the subject outside the residence.
Subsequently a probation search was conducted of the residence resulting in the recovery of two (2) stolen firearms (one .40 caliber and one 9 millimeter), approximately 100 mature marijuana plants, two (2) pounds of processed Marijuana, two (2) scales and $1130.00 in cash. The subject was arrested and booked into county jail for being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Felon in Possession of Ammunition, Possession of a Controlled Substance and a loaded firearm, Maintaining an Unlawful Dwelling, Marijuana Sales, Unauthorized Cultivation of Marijuana, Possession of Stolen Property and for violating the terms and conditions of his probation.
The HRP unit focuses on those who score high on our risk assessments; the focus for them is more intensive supervision and those who fall under the Prop 63 unit, which requires courts and probation officers to ensure guns are removed from convicted felons. This arrest showcases one successful outcome of these units.
