If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, Rio Linda is the place to be.

Ah, the first weekend of spring! 75-degree weather, and not a cloud in the sky. A perfect time to get out of the house, have an early breakfast, hit some yard sales, and enjoy the local events.

Four events are scheduled for this weekend:

  • The Rio Linda Little League Parade and Opening Day
    • A few weeks ago it didn’t look like this was going to happen, but tradition and community spirit rule the day! Stacey Bastian has worked with the RLLL to guide this event to home plate, with over 50 entries slated to participate. The RLLL Parade will take place on Saturday at 8am, and will travel the traditional route for our local parades, from West 2nd Street, east on M Street to Oak Lane. Please be aware that traffic will be impacted between 8am and 10am.
  • The Rio Linda Grange’s Spring Plant Sale
    • The spring plant sale falls on the morning of March 26th this year. Loads of peppers, tomatoes, vegetables, melons and herb seedlings! The Grange plans to have TWICE as many plants this year! The sale begins at 8am and takes place at the Rio Linda Grange Hall, 1315 G Street in Rio Linda. Get there early, as this is a VERY popular event and varieties sell out quickly.
    • Plants to be available on Saturday: Tomatoes: Red – Abe Lincoln, Classic Beefsteak, Big Beef Plus (F1 hybrid), Tappy’s Heritage Pink – Brandywine, German Pink Purple/Black – Cherokee Purple, True Black Brandywine, Carbon Yellow/Orange – Kellogg’s Breakfast, Dad’s Sunset, Yellow Brandywine Striped/Bi-color – Solar Flare, Pineapple, Big Rainbow, Gold Medal, Pink Berkeley Tie Dye Cherry Tomatoes – Sun Gold, Super Sweet 100 Paste – San Marzano Sweet Peppers: Green Bell, Lilac Bell, Banana, Corbacci, Friariello De Napoli, Shishito Hot Peppers: 5 Color Hot, Hungarian Hot Wax, Jalapeno, “Hot Pepper” (we goofed when seeding these, they are either Anaheim or Sugar Rush Peach – a habanero type. Roll the dice and see what you get!) Summer Squash: Green zucchini and Yellow Straightneck Winter Squash: Butternut, Acorn & Spaghetti Pumpkins: Sugar Pie, Red Warty Thing, Big Moon Cucumbers: Slicing and Armenian Melons: Cantelope and Watermelon Eggplant: Black Beauty and Rosa Blanca Herbs: Genovese Basil, Sweet Marjoram, Curley Parsley, Cilantro.
  • Outdoor Market & Craft Fair
    • Tonia Silva has cranked up the craft fair machine for 2022, and the first event takes place this Saturday, March 26th. Get outside, do some shopping, grab a taco from the taco truck 🌮, a coffee ☕️ or tea from Pittador Brews, check out the unique items at The Treasured Penny, grab a bar of 🧼 soap from Renewal Soaps, even get your taxes done by a certified, local tax preparer. Come check out all of the other local offerings. This event kicks off at 8am at 825 M Street, right next door to the Post office.
  • Community Meeting to Discuss Homeless Crisis with Supervisor Sue Frost
    • Then on Monday, Supervisor Sue Frost comes to Rio Linda to discuss the County homeless crisis and how it is impacting our community. Supervisor Frost will be joined by the County’s Director of Human Assistance, Director of Homeless Initiatives and the Sergeant of the “Sheriff Homeless Outreach Team” to answer your questions and offer ways the county office can assist you.
    • Monday, March 28th, 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Depot Park, 6730 Front Street
