The 2022 edition of the Rio Linda Knights Football Club showed some promise last night but ended the night scoreless, dropping the season opener as the Center High Cougars blanked the Knights 27-0.

The 2022 edition of the Rio Linda Knights Football Club showed some promise last night but ended the night scoreless, dropping the season opener as the Center High Cougars blanked the Knights 27-0.

Knights Senior running back Anthony Grahn rushed 9 times for 30 yards and led the team in yardage. Junior running back Jesus Naranjo was close behind with 29 yards. Senior Waylon Morgan had one catch for 9 yards.

The Rio Linda defense was tough, and the final score doesn’t represent the difficulties Center experienced as they tried to reach the end zone. In fact, the Knights held the Cougars scoreless in the first and third quarters. Grahn made the most of his minutes by leading the team in tackles on defense and was assisted by Malik Lugar and Samuel Taylor.

The Knights will reset and travel to the pocket area to face Kennedy High School next Friday the 26th. Game times are tentatively 5pm for JV and 7pm for Varsity, depending on the heat, which pushed Friday’s game back by one hour.

Other Golden Empire League scores:

  • Dixon 27, Union Mine 21
  • Pioneer 7, Wood 14
  • Woodland 15, Marysville 29
  • Casa Roble 35, Placer 37
  • Mesa Verde had a first-week bye, and will face Foresthill on Saturday 8/27
