Twin Rivers Superintendent Friday Update 11/10/22

A Graduation Message from Dr. Steve Martinez.
TRUSD Superintendent Dr. Steve Martinez

November 10, 2022

To Staff and the Twin Rivers School Community,

You’re getting my Friday Update early because tomorrow is Veterans Day and our schools
and offices are closed. It’s a day we honor all U.S. military veterans, and I want to take this
opportunity to let our TR veterans know we are forever grateful for their service, sacrifice,
and the example they set for all of us.

This week, our school community showed its support for the important work that takes
place every day in our schools, and I am so deeply grateful. On Nov. 8, as voters across the
nation and state were casting ballots for governors, senators, congress, city councils, and
school boards, members of the Twin Rivers community were voting on school bonds that
would provide the funds for us to invest in our schools. Both Measures J and K passed, and
as I see it, the voters gave both a show of support for excellent schools and a vote of
confidence for the work that is taking place across the district. Thank you.

We believe that all students have some fundamental needs that must be met for them to access learning. Those include feeling safe at school, feeling welcome in all learning environments, and having access to facilities and equipment that are state-of-the-art. Clean, safe, and well-equipped schools, from classrooms and cafeterias to libraries and locker rooms, are essential to create and provide all students and staff with learning and working environments that support great education.

The voters have entrusted an investment of $270 million to the TR district to create safe, clean, contemporary, and welcoming learning environments for all students. Thanks to the thousands of public school supporters across the Twin Rivers community, we have 270
million reasons to be grateful.

Our district is committed to making the absolute most of these funds so that we can provide the most to our students. Look for information on our progress with all bond projects on our website. We will begin, of course, by establishing the bond oversight committee that works to ensure all funds are properly allocated in accordance with commitments outlined in the
ballot – our promise to the community.

Around TR

  • Another great groundbreaking ceremony in the district! After more than two years without a pool (structural damage), Foothill High School’s new state-of-the-art Aquatic Center is scheduled to be completed in approximately 10 months. The Aquatic Center will include a 13-lane competition pool, two diving boards, two floating water polo goals, a bathhouse with restrooms and an office (fitted for use as a ticket booth), bleachers, marquee/scoreboard and a sun shade structure.
  • “Together We Shine” is the theme of National School Psychology Week, Nov. 7-11. We have an amazing team of 35 dedicated school psychologists who support our students and a variety of programs across the district. Thank you for all that you do.

Warm regards,
Steve Martinez, Ed.D.
Superintendent, Twin Rivers Unified
