Tonight, Wednesday, July 12 between 8:30 p.m. and 12 a.m. parts of west Placer County are scheduled for an aerial adulticide treatment due to positive West Nile virus mosquitoes, dead birds, and high adult mosquito counts.
An EPA-registered mosquito insecticide will be applied in an ultra-low volume fog by aircraft to target adult mosquitoes.
The map shown below, provided by Placer County Mosquito & Vector Control District, shows that aerial spray will be targeted on the area east of Pleasant Grove Road, and south of Baseline Road, just north of the curves on Rio Linda Boulevard.
This is the same area targeted last week when a Placer County contractor flew low over Rio Linda and Elverta spraying the insecticide with the intent that the wind would carry the mist into the intended Placer County target area. Multiple reports indicated that the insecticide landed on properties in Rio Linda and Elverta, within Sacramento County.
In an email from the Placer County Mosquito & Vector Control District, they state that wind speed and direction are especially important during adult mosquito applications and that the District only uses aerial mosquito control contractors who use specialized systems to allow the pilot to measure the wind and fly in a way to deliver the material into the target area.
