Is the Elverta Specific Plan a Dead Horse?

Sacramento, CA – The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the Sacramento region, effective Wednesday, September 4th at 11:00 am and lasting until 8:00 pm on Friday, September 6th.

Cooling Centers Open:

To help residents beat the heat, several emergency shelters and community centers will be open as cooling centers during the advisory period. All community members are welcome, and pets are allowed on leashes or in carriers.

Before heading to a cooling center, residents are encouraged to call 2-1-1 or visit 211sacramento.org for the most up-to-date information on locations, days, and operating hours. Existing cooling spaces like libraries and community centers can also be utilized.

Cooling Center Locations:

  • North A Emergency Shelter: 1400 North A Street, Sacramento: Open 1 pm – 10 pm, September 4th – 6th
  • Outreach and Engagement Center: 3615 Auburn Blvd: Open September 4th at 11 am through September 7th at 8 am
  • Sam and Bonnie Pannell Center: 2450 Meadowview Rd: Open 8 am – 8 pm, September 4th – 6th

County Health officials are urging residents to take precautions to stay cool during the heat event. This includes staying hydrated, avoiding strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day, and checking on vulnerable neighbors and family members.

Tips for Beating the Heat:

  • Drink plenty of water and electrolyte drinks.
  • Limit sun exposure and stay in air conditioning whenever possible.
  • Wear loose-fitting, light-colored clothing.
  • Schedule outdoor activities for the cooler morning and evening hours.
  • Never leave children or pets unattended in parked cars.
  • Provide pets with plenty of fresh water and shade.
  • Use sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher.
  • Check local weather forecasts and stay informed about heat alerts.
  • Take advantage of cooling spaces like libraries, malls, or cooling centers.
