RIO LINDA, CA – A potentially dangerous grass fire that ignited in a field near 2nd Street and Shady Valley Court last night was swiftly extinguished by a massive and coordinated response from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, preventing damage to nearby homes.
The call came in around 6 p.m. Within minutes, the early evening sky began to fill with smoke, prompting a full-scale wildland dispatch from Metro Fire.
Crews arrived on the scene in force, with multiple engines, specialized grass trucks designed for off-road terrain, and water tenders to ensure a steady water supply. The decisive factor in the quick containment, however, came from the air.
Metro Fire’s Copter 3 was dispatched to the scene and performed a single, precise water drop on the head of the fire. This aerial attack stopped the blaze’s momentum, allowing firefighters on the ground to quickly control it.
Thanks to the combined efforts, the fire’s forward progress was stopped at 6:14 p.m., just minutes after it began. The blaze was contained to a half-acre, and while one outbuilding sustained slight damage, no homes were affected and no injuries were reported.
