Costco Snaps Up Land Near Rio Linda for Massive Distribution Center

Costco Coming to West Roseville

Great news for our community! First reported in the Sacramento Business Journal, Warehouse giant Costco has purchased 92 acres in Metro Air Park, a significant move that could bring numerous employment opportunities right to our doorstep. This vast plot of undeveloped land is located mostly northeast of where Metro Air Parkway meets Sky King Road, with an address right on Elkhorn Blvd. – a straight shot west from Rio Linda.

This development could mean a significant boost for our local economy, offering potential job openings at the distribution center. With the site just a direct path west on Elkhorn Boulevard, residents of Rio Linda and Elverta will have convenient access to these new opportunities.

Costco paid $42.9 million for the land, which is earmarked for industrial development within Metro Air Park.

Last summer, Sacramento County processed an application for the “Costco Sacramento Depot” at an address matching the recently sold parcel. The initial application outlined plans for a colossal 949,000-square-foot distribution center, complete with parking for 840 trucks and 480 passenger vehicles. This facility would also include office space and numerous loading bays, with renderings showing a distinctive “U” shape.

If built to its proposed size, this distribution center would be among the largest in Metro Air Park, joining other major retailers like Amazon and Walmart. Currently, Costco’s closest distribution center is in Tracy, making this new facility a strategic addition to their logistics network.

Good news on the progress front: county planners approved the design review for the project earlier this year. While a building permit application for a slightly smaller 663,390-square-foot distribution center is still pending approval, the project is clearly moving forward.
