Whether it’s winter storms that bring flood risks, or wildfires and grassland fires threatening communities across Sacramento County, hazards can develop quickly, triggering evacuations, road closures and other critical safety measures.

To prepare for any potential threat to our area, Sacramento County will conduct its annual mass notification exercise designed to test the County notification system.

Sacramento Alert—the County’s mass notification system powered by the Smart911® platform—is a vital tool that allows residents to receive immediate instructions, such as evacuation notices, during an emergency.

On Oct. 16, at 10:16 a.m., Sacramento County will conduct its 8th annual countywide mass notification exercise of the region’s emergency alert system. This event will involve residents, in participating cities and unincorporated areas across Sacramento County, who are signed up for Sacramento-Alert.

Those who are signed up will receive test alerts simulating a large-scale emergency requiring thousands of simultaneous notifications.

A unique product of Sacramento Alert is the ability for residents to register multiple contact methods—including cell phones, landlines, and email addresses—at a single physical address. Registering multiple contacts significantly improves the system’s ability to reach people quickly during real emergencies. Residents can also download the Smart911® app from the Apple App Store or Google Play to receive alerts on mobile devices.
