Today marks the first day of the Sacramento County Department of Transportation’s (SACDOT) bi-annual Pothole Sweeps week where crews will be hitting the streets to make repairs to ready road surfaces for the storm season.
Pothole Sweeps Week is an intensified effort to smooth our streets and provide preventative maintenance activities for unincorporated area roadways. SACDOT is always on the lookout for roadway offenders and annually repairs nearly 45,000 potholes – at a price tag of nearly $3 million a year.
Transportation crews will be taking a list of the worst pothole offenders within the unincorporated portions of Sacramento County and apply relief to shock absorbers in the form of asphalt patches to the roadways.
With more than 5,200 lane miles of paved roadways in the county’s unincorporated area, SACDOT is asking for your help to identify potholes that need to be repaired. Report potholes to 3-1-1 (or 875-4311 if calling outside the unincorporated area) or visit us online.
Last year, SACDOT received 4,890 reports about potholes. It usually takes 72 hours from the time SACDOT receives a call for the road to be repaired. While Pothole Sweeps Week shines a spotlight on this issue, the SACDOT policy is “to repair all potholes as soon as possible.”
This round of Pothole Sweeps week will take place starting on Monday, Nov. 13 and continue through Friday, Nov. 17. Remember, if you come across crews fixing the street while traveling, please be cognizant of these lane closures and the associated delays.
