Rio Linda Post Office may close

Rio Linda North Highlands Post Office

A tip was received earlier this week stating the Elverta and Rio Linda Post Offices may close and be consolidated with the North Highlands Post Office. Knowing how much our post office means to the community, The News has attempted to confirm or deny this rumor. The United States Post Office is in the process of realigning postal facilities and savings millions of dollars. Attempting to cut costs, career positions have been reduced by 110,000 positions over the past four fiscal years.

The situation that exists with the USPS is serious and it appears as though our community may be caught in the trickle down affect. Calls placed to the Rio Linda and Elverta Post Offices did not provide much information. A study is going to be taken and when that happens, the postmasters will be notified. So far that notification has not been received, but it could come at anytime.

Calls to several local businesses who use the post office brought responses of surprise. It, also, brought reports of what happened to people living in Rio Linda when the North Highlands office opened some addresses changed from Rio Linda to North Highlands, although no one moved.

Residents of Rio Linda value their identity. Will this realignment remove our identity? We hope not! How far does it have to go before we, as a community rally around our town and stop the constant downsizing of our identity? Look at the victims already…

  • Elverta Volunteer Fire Department
  • Rio Linda Volunteer Fire Department
  • Rio Linda Union School District
  • Rio Linda Elementary School
  • Rio Linda Elverta Community Water District (Always, ALWAYS a candidate for consolidation with Sacramento Suburban WD).
How long before we become Fair Oaks, or North Sacramento, Or Carmichael, where the only places you see the name of the former community is in the names of the businesses. How long before we become North Highlands? We’ve already got a marijuana shop on the corner. What’s next? Massage Parlor? Hookers?

What can you do? You can write to your postmaster and express your opinion. Address your letter to “Postmaster” and use Rio Linda, CA 95673 or Elverta, CA 95636. It’s as easy as that.

It is important for us to let the post office know how we feel. Since the official study has not actually started, now is the time to state your opinion.[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
