After soaring past the Natomas Nighthawks two weeks ago, the Rio Linda Knights came back down to earth Friday night, falling 32–13 to the Casa Roble Rams in a tough Homecoming matchup. The loss snapped Rio Linda’s three-game winning streak and dropped their record to 3–3, while Casa Roble improved to 5–1 and extended its own win streak to four.
It was a physical contest from start to finish, and while the scoreboard didn’t go their way, the Knights continued to show grit and flashes of the offensive firepower that defined their early-season success. Rio Linda found the end zone twice thanks to hard-running efforts from Joseph Kalanui and Louis Means, who both battled through a stout Casa Roble defense that has frustrated opponents all season.
Casa Roble’s senior standout Jaylan Barcenas proved difficult to contain, rushing for 185 yards and two touchdowns while averaging nearly 10 yards per carry. Quarterback Aidan Lopez added 305 passing yards and two scores through the air, completing 78% of his passes. The Rams’ offensive efficiency, coupled with their ability to control possession, kept the Knights’ offense off the field for long stretches.
The Knights entered the game having scored at least 31 points in each of their previous three contests, but Casa Roble’s defensive front succeeded in slowing down Rio Linda’s tempo and forcing key third-down stops.
Despite the result, there are still plenty of positives for Rio Linda moving forward. The team’s 3–3 record keeps them firmly in the hunt in league play, and their offensive potential remains undeniable. Head coach Jack Garceau and staff continue to emphasize discipline and execution—two areas the Knights have lacked in recent seasons that could make the difference as the Knights enter the back half of their season.
This Friday, the Knights host a bruising Sutter High School team in what promises to be one of their toughest and most challenging games of the year. The Huskies have been lighting up the scoreboard, posting at least 31 points in every game this season. The matchup will feature two of the area’s most dynamic backs, Joseph Corey for Rio Linda and Losi Asiata for Sutter, in what could be a ground and pound showdown.
Rio Linda fans are encouraged to come out in force Friday night to support the Knights as they look to bounce back and reclaim their early-season form. With community support and continued growth on both sides of the ball, Rio Linda remains a dangerous AND determined team in the weeks ahead.
