Charles John Engvall 1928-2022

The family of Charles John Engvall Jr. of Citrus Heights, California is saddened to announce his passing on April 14, 2022, at the age of 94 years.

His passing was followed by that of his wife of 71 years, Joy Engvall who passed away two weeks later on April 28, 2022.

He will be lovingly remembered by his children: Rick Engvall (Jayne), Tim Engvall (Kim), Steve Engvall; grandchildren: Nicholas Engvall, Erik Engvall, Eve Engvall, Garrett Nelson (Sarah), Royce Nelson (Stephanie); extended family, Glen and Janice Weller, Janet Cross, Linda Taylor, John Weller, Mel Weller, Dave Weller as well as numerous relatives and friends.

Charles was preceded in death by his brother, Alfred Engvall: sisters Mildred Engvall, Irene Baker, Esther Richarson, and Dorothy McPherson; and parents, Charles John Engvall, Sr. and Mildred May Engvall.

Charles lived his last 60 years in Citrus Heights California. He was born on March 4, 1928, in Roseville, California. After graduating Placer high school, he was proud to serve in the US Air Force and was stationed in Guam for 3 years.

Charles was an elementary school teacher in the Rio Linda School District for 32 years, honored for his dedication and loyal service to children. As a young adult Charles began working at the fruit packing shed in Newcastle, and after becoming a teacher he continued working summers there for over 40 years, supervising the day-to-day operations.

Charles and his wife Joy were founding members of the City of Citrus Heights Neighborhood Association, volunteering time supporting the City of Citrus Heights. In 2012 they were awarded Outstanding Senior Volunteers for the City of Citrus Heights. The award was given by the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors and Adult and Aging Commission.

Charles and Joy loved to have all the family come to their home to gather for holidays and special occasions. Together, they traveled to various places throughout the US, the 1976 Olympics, Hawaii, and China in 2008.

In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Alzheimer’s Association (https://www.alz.org/) in his loving memory.
