Christmas Comes to Rio Linda on Saturday

A full day of holiday activity is scheduled in the community for Saturday, December 8th.

The day begins with the Annual Breakfast with Santa and Holiday Crafts Fair, presented by the Rio Linda Elverta Recreation and Park District, and sponsored by the Rio Linda Elverta Chamber of Commerce.

The pancake breakfast will begin at 9am, and includes pancakes, eggs, ham, and coffee. Free fun and games for the kids, and free pictures with Santa goes on until 12 noon. The craft fair features arts and crafts suitable for holiday gift giving. For more information, contact the RLERPD at 916-991-5929 or visit their website at https://www.rleparks.com/

Later in the day at 2pm, the Rio Linda Elverta  Community Theater will present “It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play”. This beloved American holiday classic comes to captivating life as a live 1940’s radio broadcast. With the help of an ensemble that brings a few dozen characters to the stage, the story of idealistic George Bailey unfolds as he considers ending his life one fateful Christmas Eve. It is a heartwarming show for the whole family!

They will perform the play beginning Thursday at 7pm, Friday 7pm, and Saturday at 2pm. This will happen at LifePointe Church of the Nazarene,  at 7200 Rio Linda Blvd. Admission is FREE. However, There are so many in our very community that have very little. For those interested in donating, the RLECT are collecting unwrapped gifts for the Rio Linda Elverta Lions Club Ruby’s Baskets drive at each of the shows.

And finally, Saturday night at 6pm, the community of Rio Linda and Elverta will celebrate the holiday season with the 3rd Annual Rio Linda Elverta Christmas Light Parade.

In just two years, this event has quickly become the largest and most anticipated single-day event in the Rio Linda Elverta community, with thousands of excited parade viewers from throughout Northern California lining M Street in historic downtown Rio Linda, to see the nearly 100 parade entries.

As in previous years, the parade will feature first responders, marching bands, equestrians, custom cars, parade floats and a visit from Santa himself, driving his unique, cherry red 32 Ford hot rod “sleigh”. All of them, from band members to horses to parade floats and marching dogs will be lit with Christmas lights.

Sacramento County District 4 Supervisor Sue Frost will lead the parade riding in “Old Betsy”, the Rio Linda Fire Department’s very first fire truck.

Sacramento’s Christmas Music Station, Mix96, will provide the holiday music, and our parade judges include Mix96 DJ Marilyn Nelson, and Good Day Sacramento legal analyst Craig Ashton & Ed Schade from Ashton & Price.

After the parade, we will gather at the judges location at Depot Park to light the community Christmas Tree, and hand out the awards for the parade and the home/business Christmas Light contest.

The Rio Linda Elverta Christmas Light parade is presented by the Rio Linda Elverta Country Faire, Rio Linda Elverta Visions, and the Rio Linda Lions Club. The parade is sponsored by A-1 Storage, A&J Worth Construction, Mix96, Ashton & Price Attorneys at Law, Eclipse Event Lighting, and Rio Linda Online.
