Clear the Shelters Adopt & Donate Drive

Article Date: Wednesday, August 5, 2020

While many look forward to fun in the sun and longer days during summer months, animal shelters across the nation prepare for high intake of puppies and kittens due to spring litters. Sacramento County’s Bradshaw Animal Shelter is no exception. In previous years, the animal shelter has participated in Clear the Shelters – an adoption event to alleviate the high impact of summer intake during the month of August. Unfortunately, this year’s coronavirus pandemic has forced many shelters to cancel major adoption and fundraising events.

“Our biggest fundraiser is our Whiskers and Wine Dinner Party hosted each year by our non-profit Teaching Everyone Animals Matter (TEAM). We depend on this event to raise funds for many of the specialty surgeries performed each year on sick and injured shelter animals. This year’s event was scheduled for April 4 but due to COVID -19, the event was canceled,” said shelter director Dave Dickinson. “We are hoping we can raise money through this online donation platform so we can continue to provide medical assistance to the sick and injured animals that require specialty surgeries or treatments.”

Shelter Director Dave Dickinson

During the entire month of August, Bradshaw Animal Shelter is participating in an online donation campaign through Clear the Shelters called Adopt & Donate in which donations will be matched up to $100,000 from Aug. 1 – 7. Donations will help with specialty surgeries and treatments including fracture repairs, dermatology evaluations, ear surgeries, neurology examinations, ACL repairs, echocardiograms and many more.

In addition to online donations, the shelter is offering adoptions by appointment. Potential adopters can view available shelter pets online by visiting the shelter’s website then call the adoption appointment line at (916) 875-28287. The adoption line is open Tuesday through Sunday between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Adoption fees are $25 and include spay or neuter surgery, vaccines, a lifetime microchip registration, and one year licensing (for county residents).

To learn more about the Adopt & Donate campaign, visit GreaterGood.org and be sure to notate whether you’d like your donation to go towards medical care at Sacramento County Animal Care & Regulation. To view available shelter pets, visit the shelter’s animal adoption page. For other ways to help the Bradshaw Animal Shelter, visit the donation and sponsorship page.
