RIO LINDA, CA – You may want to keep your windows closed and your pets indoors tonight. The Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control District has announced plans for aerial spraying to combat adult mosquitoes capable of transmitting the West Nile virus. The treatment is scheduled for tonight, Monday, June 23rd, between 8:00 p.m. and midnight.
The agricultural areas north of Natomas, including portions of the 95673 zip code covering Rio Linda, are targeted for the ultra-low volume (ULV) treatment. The District will be using Pyronyl 525, a product registered with the California Environmental Protection Agency and designed to quickly reduce adult mosquito populations.
This action is part of the District’s ongoing Integrated Pest Management program, prompted by mosquito counts and virus activity meeting the criteria for treatment.
While the products are deemed safe for public health, the District recommends the following steps for residents who wish to minimize their exposure:
- Remain indoors with windows and doors closed during the application in your immediate area.
- Consult a doctor if you have special health conditions or concerns.
The scheduled spraying may be canceled or postponed due to weather conditions or other unforeseen issues.
