Revised Final Climate Action Plan Draft Released

Do you want to share your knowledge and experience while helping to shape local climate policy? Sacramento County is seeking community members to join the newly established Climate Emergency Task Mobilization Force!

On December 16, 2020, the Board of Supervisors (BOS) adopted a resolution declaring a climate emergency and directing the formation of the Task Force. On March 23, 2022, the BOS approved a resolution that set the Task Force compensation and composition, endorsed the guiding principles and scope of work, and directed the Sustainability Manager to begin a public application process to fill member seats.

The overall mission of the Task Force is to provide input, guidance, oversight and assistance to the Sustainability Manager, and to serve as an advisory body to the County.

“The Task Force is a partner and will be utilized to maximize the effectiveness of County staff efforts, particularly with regard to the equitable and inclusive sharing of ideas and public input,” said Sacramento County Sustainability Manager, John Lundgren. “The Task Force will provide expert and community advice on the mobilization of public and private resources necessary to implement a climate and sustainability plan that identifies and integrates current and future actions necessary to achieve an equitable, sustainable and resilient economy and transition to countywide carbon neutrality by 2030 and beyond.”

The Task Force will be composed of 13 members, including six members with technical expertise in air quality, agriculture, built environment, economics, energy, or transit/transportation; six environmental justice leadership members; and one student member.

Technical and environmental justice leadership members will serve two-year terms. To ensure the Task Force membership does not turn over at once, for the initial terms, half of the technical and half of the environmental justice leaders will serve two-year terms and half will serve three-year terms.

The youth term will be one year and may be automatically extended an additional year at the written request of the youth.
Task Force meetings will occur at least monthly, and Task Force members will be compensated $70 per meeting. Applications are being accepted now through May 13, 2022. To learn more and apply, visit the Task Force webpage.
