In a dramatic shift from their previous high-scoring game, the Rio Linda Knights were shut out 21-0 by Marysville on Friday. The Indians’ defense proved to be impenetrable, holding the Knights scoreless after they had put up 40 points in their last outing.
Sophomore Quarterback Louis Means completed five of 13 passes for 70 yards, with Imara Bell being his main target with 43 receiving yards. On the ground, Senior Joseph Corey was a bright spot, rushing for 85 yards on just 11 carries.
One of the bright spots of the game was Imara Bell’s interception early in the first quarter, once again putting Bell’s ball-hawking skills on display. This gives Bell three interceptions in just two games.
For Marysville, a senior duo led the charge. Joshua Adams dominated with 149 rushing yards and a touchdown, averaging an impressive 8.8 yards per carry, while Andrew Salguero added 115 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries.
The loss drops Rio Linda’s record to 0-2. Marysville, meanwhile, evened their record at 1-1 with the win.
The Knights will seek their first victory of the season against Center on Friday at 7:00 p.m. The Cougars bring a 2-0 record to Michael Morris Field after defeating Kennedy and El Camino in the opening games of the season.
The Knights will also recognize the Rio Linda Jr. Knights Youth Football and Cheer programs between the two games.
