A severe traffic collision involving a vehicle and a bicyclist shut down eastbound Elkhorn Boulevard near Dry Creek Road early this morning in Rio Linda. The incident, initially reported as a vehicle vs. bicyclist collision, was later upgraded to a major injury crash by the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

The CHP incident log indicates the initial report came in at 6:14 AM involving a gray Honda Civic and a pedestrian. However, a correction minutes later specified it was a vehicle vs. bicyclist.

Traffic control was in effect for over an hour. At 6:43 AM, the CHP requested that traffic be held on westbound Elkhorn at Dry Creek. By 6:56 AM, officers planned to partially stop one lane of traffic near Cherry Lane to facilitate clearing the scene.

The situation began to clear up when Elkhorn was fully open at 7:32 AM, and emergency personnel left the scene to follow up at a medical facility (Mercy San Juan).

There is no update on the condition of the cyclist or the driver.
