RIO LINDA, CA – Two men are in custody and ineligible for bail following a violent assault and robbery that took place in Rio Linda last month, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office announced in a news release Tuesday.
Robert Treat and Samuel Mattia have been arrested in connection with the May 24th incident. Sheriff’s deputies were initially called to a residential property near Elkhorn Boulevard and Marysville Boulevard after a concerned neighbor reported hearing a gunshot and someone yelling for help.
Upon arrival, deputies found a male victim with an apparent gunshot wound to his face. He was accompanied by another man, who was identified as Robert Treat.
The victim reported to deputies that he was at the location to look at a tent trailer for sale when a second suspect, identified as Samuel Mattia, shot him in the face without provocation. The victim stated that after the shooting, he was assaulted with baseball bats by both Mattia and another individual. Mattia then allegedly stole the victim’s wallet and car keys and fled in the victim’s vehicle. A friend of the victim, who was still inside the car when it was stolen, was later found unharmed.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies located the stolen vehicle a short time later and attempted a traffic stop. Mattia fled on foot but was quickly apprehended and taken into custody for a series of felony charges.
Treat was initially detained at the scene. Following further investigation by Robbery Detectives which confirmed his involvement in the assault, an arrest warrant was issued, and he was taken into custody. The Sheriff’s Office North Problem Oriented Policing (POP) team executed a search warrant at the Rio Linda property where the crime occurred to gather additional evidence.
Both Treat and Mattia are currently being held in the Sacramento County Main Jail. Treat is scheduled to appear in court on June 20, while Mattia’s court date is set for July 10.
