In Memoriam: Meredith Carrleigh McCurdy

May 7, 1973 – January 8, 2026

Elverta, California – Meredith “Carrleigh” McCurdy, age 52, of Elverta, California, passed away on the morning of January 8, 2026, following a recent brief illness.

She was born on May 7, 1973, in Sacramento, CA, to the late Kenneth McCurdy and Madalynne Pires Hinderstein.

Carrleigh spent her childhood surrounded by friends and memorable and mischievous experiences in and around Sacramento and graduated from St. Francis High School. Carrleigh then pursued her dream of studying Psychobiology at UC Santa Cruz.

Born with a free spirit and a deep connection to nature, Carr lived her life authentically and without pretense. She had a profound love for animals and shared that love with the two great loves her adult life, David Kennedy and Daniel Straw, who were cherished companions throughout her journey.

Carrleigh held an ever-present connection to the mystical and the natural world. She found joy in astrology, camping, space, cooking, gardening, and travel. She nurtured a small but meaningful circle of friends, and her heart was always rooted in kindness, genuine connection, and a well-timed touch of sarcasm.

Her legacy is one of acceptance, love for nature, and the reminder to always look beyond the surface.

Carrleigh is survived by her life companions, David Kennedy and Daniel Straw; her stepmother, Edie McCurdy; her half-sister, Jessica Hoy, and niece Addison; her stepsisters, Angelica Holiday and Rina (David) Hinderstein Reynolds, and nephews William and Thomas; and her stepsiblings, Jennifer Hatch, Melanie Foy, and Jeremy Cook. She is also survived by her beloved pets and many dear friends whose lives she touched deeply.

A celebration of Carrleigh’s life will take place on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at the Dante Event Center (2330 Fair Oaks Boulevard, Sacramento, CA 95825) at 12:30 PM. There will be a short ceremony followed by brunch. Please come share all of those happy memories!

To honor Carr’s life, please consider supporting your local animal shelter in a meaningful way.
