The BOS also approved to execute an agreement with Sacramento Housing and Rehabilitation Agency (SHRA) to use the $64,102,830 for Sacramento Emergency Rental Assistance (SERA) for residents of Sacramento County – regardless of where they live in the County.

The approved $64 million joins an additional $31 million allocated by the City of Sacramento for a total of $95.6 million dollars available for emergency rental assistance for those that have lost income due to the COVID-19 pandemic and are in danger of becoming unhoused or experiencing housing instability. Awarded funds can be used for past due rent or utility payments. Property owners are able to apply for assistance on behalf of their tenants as well.

The application period opens February 25 and runs through March 19, 2021. Applications will open on the SHRA website February 25. Applications, flyers, materials and language assistance will be available in English, Chinese, Hmong, Russian, Spanish and Vietnamese.

  • Have at least one household member that, due to COVID-19:
  • is unemployed, OR
    • has experienced a reduction in household income, incurred significant costs, OR

  • Demonstrate a risk of being unhoused or housing instability
