New Rio Linda Crisis Residential Program Ribbon Cutting June 20, 2016

Sacramento, CA – Sacramento County’s Division of Behavioral Health Services and Turning Point Community Programs will open a new Crisis Residential Program in Rio Linda in early July, 2016. A ribbon cutting will be held 10 a.m. Monday, June 20th with an opportunity to see the new facilities at 505 M Street in Rio Linda until 7 p.m.

It has 8 bedrooms for up to 15 adults and will offer a much-needed alternative to psychiatric hospitals and emergency rooms. Clients are referred through various mental health service providers and cannot self-refer. It is funded through the Mental Health Services Act, California Health Facilities Financing Authority, and the Investment in Mental Health Wellness Act of 2013, which addresses crisis intervention, crisis stabilization, crisis residential treatment, rehabilitative mental health services, and mobile crisis support teams.  The annual operating budget will be $1.7 million and will create 14 to 18 new jobs.

Supervisor Roberta MacGlashan said, ““I am pleased with the investment Turning Point has chosen to make in Rio Linda, providing an asset for the community that will enhance services to this area of Sacramento County.”

Turning Point’s CEO, Al Rowlett, said, “We met with interested community members to explain our services and to be good neighbors.”   Leslie Springer, Turning Point’s Deputy Director of Program and Residential Services explained the current program receives a volume of referrals that far exceeds the service capacity. “We are thrilled to be able to serve more adults in a timely manner, through our centralized referral process.”

Uma Zykofsky, Director of Sacramento County’s Behavioral Health Services said, “We are looking forward to providing these services for some who, at a point in their lives, experience a need for a mental health service and would benefit from additional support. The Rio Linda Crisis Residential Program will enable individuals to have all the supportive services to learn coping skills and manage a life crisis and move forward in their lives.”

Crisis Residential Programs provide a homelike atmosphere with 24/7 staffing, coordination of care, crisis intervention, individual and/or group psychosocial rehabilitation support and therapy, family meetings, medication monitoring, peer counseling, and discharge planning. Services promote recovery, personal responsibility, with self-help strategies to support clients’ transition to the least restrictive living situation upon discharge. Clients participate in communal activities and practice daily living skills. The telephone for the new facility (opening in early July, 2016) will be (916) 287-4067 and the fax will be (916) 287-4068.

Turning Point Community Programs has offered a path to mental health since 1976 and has successfully operated a crisis residential program in Sacramento since 1992. Find out more at www.tpcp.org.
