New Season, New Knights: Rio Linda Launches Winter Sports Campaign After Successful Fall Finish

The competitive energy on the Rio Linda High School campus never pauses. As the crisp Northern California air officially signals the end of the Fall sports campaign—one that saw impressive efforts across the board, including the football team’s hard-fought run to the playoffs—the Knights have wasted no time shifting focus. The Winter season is officially underway, and the schedule for the week of November 17th through November 22nd is packed with high-stakes road trips and crucial home openers.

Full Throttle on the Hardwood: Basketball Opens Week with Key Games

Both the Boys’ and Girls’ Varsity Basketball teams are starting the season with immediate challenges, aiming to set an aggressive tone for the coming months.

The week tips off Monday, November 17th, with a road test against West Park High School. The Girls’ Varsity team will begin the action at 5:30 p.m., followed by the Boys’ Varsity game at 7:00 p.m.

The focus quickly shifts back to home court on Tuesday, November 18th, for the annual Foundation Game against the River City Raiders. These games are pivotal for establishing team rhythm and showcasing early talent in front of the home crowd. The Girls’ team takes the floor at 6:00 p.m., with the Boys’ game immediately following at 7:45 p.m.

Girls’ Soccer and Wrestling Hit the Road for Tournament Play

Basketball is not the only program making moves this week. Girls’ Soccer and the Wrestling program are also heading into demanding early-season competitions that will test their conditioning and depth.

The Girls’ Soccer team begins its season with a single match on Wednesday, November 19th, traveling away to face Monterey Trail. The junior varsity team plays at 4:00 p.m., followed by the Varsity match at 6:00 p.m.

They will then spend the end of the week fully immersed in tournament action, participating in the Natomas Tournament on both Friday, November 21st, and Saturday, November 22nd. These all-day events are essential for team bonding and facing diverse competition before the core league schedule begins.

Meanwhile, the Wrestling team faces a grueling double-header on Saturday, November 22nd, with action scheduled away at both Wheatland and Galt. Competition runs from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Wrestlers will be looking to secure early individual wins and establish positions across various weight classes.

The early season provides an opportunity for the Rio Linda community to show up and support the next wave of successful student-athletes. Attendance at these events is crucial for building the atmosphere that contributes to home-court and home-mat advantage.
