The Rio Linda community says a final, fond farewell to Ronald “Ron” Duane Jones, who passed away peacefully at home on February 9, 2026, at the age of 88. Surrounded by the family he spent a lifetime building and protecting, Ron leaves behind a legacy defined by hard work, high-octane hobbies, and 68 years of devoted marriage.
A Journey to Rio Linda
Born on April 26, 1937, in Lingle, Wyoming, Ron’s journey to California began at age seven when his family moved west in search of opportunity. He found much more than just a job in the Golden State; he found a home. Ron spent the vast majority of his life in the Rio Linda area, becoming a fixture of the local community.
In 1956, Ron’s life changed forever at a local dance where he met Lavern Eckman. Legend has it he swept her off her feet that very night. The pair married a year later, beginning a 68-year partnership that served as the bedrock of their family.
A Career of Dedication
Ron was a man who believed in loyalty and a hard day’s work. He spent 40 years with Blue Diamond Almond Growers, where his work ethic and leadership saw him rise through the ranks to become a foreman. After four decades of service to one of California’s staple industries, he retired to focus on his many passions.
Motorcycles, Classic Cars, and the Great Outdoors
Ron was never one to sit still. He and Lavern were active members of the local motorcycle community, frequently participating in “poker runs” and competitive events. Their garage was often decorated with trophies won from various runs, and their travel maps were marked with trips that took them across the country on two wheels.
When he wasn’t on a bike, Ron could often be found under the hood of a classic car. A regular at regional car shows, Ron’s meticulous restorations earned him numerous “Best in Show” honors and a collection of trophies that reflected his attention to detail.
A Legacy in La Pine
Family was the center of Ron’s world. Whether it was camping trips with his three children or summers spent at the vacation home he and Lavern built in La Pine, Oregon, Ron was happiest when surrounded by his grandkids and his beloved pets.
Family and Remembrance
Ron is survived by his beloved wife, Lavern; his daughter Becky (Bruce); and his sons Ron Jr. (Annette) and Rodger (Lisa). He also leaves behind a proud legacy in his grandchildren—Marsha, Tina, Meghan, Jessica, and Nolan—as well as several great-grandchildren.
