Rio Linda Blues Fest Recap

88740623_1370448447From RLHS Instructor Tom Kent:

We had a great event this past weekend (August 17th and 18th) the 2nd Annual Rio Linda Blues Fest Benefit.

Lee Godfrey and Deanna Calico, the proprietors of the 1-4-5 Club in Rio Linda were the sponsors of the event. With the help from the Rio Linda-Elverta Recreation and Parks Dept., the Twin Rivers Unified School District, many Sacramento area blues bands, local vendors, and numerous volunteers, the event supported three worthwhile causes: Back to School shoes for the Rio Linda High School cluster schools, the Rio Linda High School music department, and the Rio Linda-Elverta AquaKnights swim team.

Even with the scorching heat, over 30 pairs of shoes were received. Through the gate and vendors, over a $1000 was raised.

A successful event until the generator was stolen early Sunday morning. The replacement cost for the generator is $2000. We also lost a bag of cables that belong to the Rio Linda High School Music Dept., about $400 worth. We can’t allow an act of theft to sabotage this event.

I (Tom Kent) would like to seek community groups to help Lee and Deanna with this loss. If you have any suggestions, please contact Tom Kent at 530-559-5624.
