At 8:24 p.m. on Wednesday, September 27, 2017, the Sheriff’s Department responded to 911 calls from the 5800 block of West 2nd Street where multiple gunshots had been heard in the area and a vehicle was heard speeding away after the shots.
Sacramento County Sheriff’s Deputies located the 38-year-old Charles Dynes lying in a driveway suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. Dynes was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Sheriff’s Department Detectives later located the suspect, Joshua Imber, driving a vehicle near the area of Corning, California where they attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Imber failed to stop for officers and led them in a pursuit ending near southbound Interstate 5 at County Road 20, where Imber was taken into custody.
Imber was transported back to Sacramento and booked for attempted murder.
On October 23, 2020, Joshua Imber was convicted for the first-degree murder of Charles Dynes. Imber pled guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm. The Court also found that Imber has a prior 2000 strike conviction for reckless discharge of a firearm.
On February 22nd, 2021 Judge Sharon Lueras sentenced Joshua Imber to 53 years to life in prison.
