Rio Linda Messenger Morning Brief for Thursday, May 21, 2020

Here’s what’s happening in our neighborhood today.

Horse Show to be Held may 31

According to Fox40, Doreen Irwin at the Shandoni Ranch in Elverta has been given County approval to host a horse show there on May 31st.

“It’s complicated because I was sitting around waiting for an OK from somebody and I had these shows. We have five or six shows every summer and they were scheduled since last September. Since people are at least 6 feet apart from each other riding a horse, at least, I thought that was safe distancing.”

In a letter sent to Irwin, the Sacramento County public health officials said that the current County Health Officer Order does permit equestrian activities as part of recreational activities. Social distancing protocols are still to be followed.

Burglary in Elverta

According to Gold Country Media, on May 9 Two Elverta residents reported a burglary in the 8500 block of Palladay Road in which items worth $7,800 were stolen from the residence.

Rio Linda Fitness Sues Over Closure

On Monday, May 18, Stephen Tresner filed a lawsuit against the Sacramento County and the State of California in Federal court regarding the stay at home order which has shuttered his Rio Linda Fitness gym for the last two months.

On the following day lawyers for Rio Linda Fitness says that the gym has been given permission to reopen on Monday, May 25th, according to SacBee.com.

Sacramento County Director of Health Services Dr. Peter Beilenson has decided that small fitness businesses can reopen if they meet certain requirements including having 250 square feet between people and no more than eight clients at a time.

Gyms must agree to the requirements and can only reopen once Dr. Beilenson approves. Those studios will have unannounced visits for enforcement.

Tresner alleges that he has lost more than $100,000 during the shutdown.

Tresner’s lawyers say that he plans to open on Monday.

“The public health officer is working with us to get the guidelines together. The bottom line is that this is the right result for a good man. He could have flouted the law and said we’re going to reopen, but he didn’t.”
