Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Launches “Fusus” Program to Connect with Community Cameras

Rio Linda is on the front lines of a new partnership aimed at creating a safer, more connected community. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office has launched a multi-faceted program, in collaboration with Fusus, that invites residents and business owners to help improve public safety by sharing their security camera feeds with law enforcement.

The program, as detailed in recent promotional materials, is built on two key initiatives: the Community Camera Sharing Program and the Camera Registry Program. While both aim to use existing security equipment to enhance law enforcement response, they operate with different levels of engagement and access.

The Camera Registry Program

This initiative is a less intrusive, but still highly effective, way for community members to participate. The program asks residents and business owners to voluntarily register the location of their security cameras with the Sheriff’s Office. Crucially, this does not give the Sheriff’s Office live access to your camera feed. Instead, it creates an interactive map accessible only to law enforcement, which helps investigators quickly identify potential sources of video evidence if a crime occurs in the area. If a crime takes place near a registered camera, the Sheriff’s Office can contact the owner and request specific footage. This streamlined process eliminates the time-consuming effort of going door-to-door to find witnesses or video evidence, allowing for faster and more efficient investigations.

The FususCONNECT Donor Site Initiative

For those who want to take their partnership with law enforcement a step further, the FususCONNECT Donor Site Initiative offers a more integrated solution. This program allows participants to share live video feeds with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, but only in the event of an emergency. The program uses a technology called FususCORE which creates a secure, separate tunnel for transmitting video alerts to law enforcement. This conditional access is based on a mutual agreement, and the goal is to provide deputies with real-time situational awareness during a crime or emergency, helping them respond more effectively and safely.

The Fusus system itself is a cloud-based platform that unifies various data points from different sources—including public and private cameras, sensors, and more—into a single, easy-to-use interface. This technology empowers law enforcement with enhanced real-time intelligence for a faster, more effective response.

Why It Matters for Rio Linda

By leveraging technology and community collaboration, these programs aim to improve the safety and security of our neighborhoods. The initiatives are currently being considered for various locations, including apartment complexes, schools, retail locations, and more.
