Community Survey

I want to invite you to participate in my community survey, so you can help me evaluate and improve our services based on what you want to see.  Click here to take this short survey, which will only take a couple minutes.

Community Cabinet Meetings

I will be continuing the Community Cabinet Meetings (although we may change names, format and timing to improve communication – based on the above survey responses).  I want to expand them to boost participation and input from the community.  Please click this link to see the tentative meeting schedule.  I would love to meet you in person and hear your concerns face-to-face.

Recruiting the 2017 Citizens Academy Class

The Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office, Sheriff’s Department and Probation, along with the Sacramento Police Department, are seeking recruits for the 18th annual Citizens Academy. The 10-week course is free and open to the public.

The academy was created to improve communication, foster a better understanding and develop relationships between members of the criminal justice system and citizens. The program provides an overview of the criminal justice system and engages citizens in discussions about issues within the system. The deadline to submit applications is March 10. Read the news story for more information, including class schedules and topics.

A Buzz is in the Air

Sacramento County’s most recent Crop and Livestock report indicated that Apiary (bee keeping) production has increased.  With Sacramento County’s embrace of its agricultural heritage, this increase should not come as a surprise as bees pollinate our crops.

Now is the time for beekeepers to order bees.  Approximately two three-pound packages of bees and a queen— which costs $150 to $175 each—will pollinate an acre of almonds.  They can be purchased locally at businesses such as Sacramento Beekeeping Supplies.  The bees will be ready for pick-up or delivery in April and May.

If you are interested in raising bees, and haven’t already, contact the Zoning Department to find out if your property is properly zoned for bee keeping.

Sac County Helps Families Keep More Income

As the New Year begins, it is not too early to think about filing federal taxes. The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is a benefit for which many taxpayers qualify.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers a free income tax preparation service to moderate and low-income working individuals and families with the emphasis on claiming the federal Earned Income Tax Credit.

All Tax Payers earning a gross income of $54,000 or less qualify for this Free Tax Preparation Service.

Call the Sacramento Info Line 2-1-1, or (916) 498-1000 to make appointments at any one of our four locations. All locations take walk-ins, but appointments have priority.
