Roseville Tiger football got off to a slow start Friday night with a 36-20 loss to Rio Linda.

Rio Linda proved to be the superior team, combining for 485 total yards and no turnovers. Rio also dominated the time of possession, holding the ball for 28:14 as opposed to Roseville’s 19:46.

The Knights dominated the trenches with exceptional run-blocking the entire game. Ryan Nonu, Spencer Parsley, Alex Kahn-Watson, Nick McLeod, and Zachary Marble paved the way for running back Cameron Mikell to score four touchdowns.

Roseville started out strong with an 80-yard drive to start the game, capped off by an 8-yard pass from Nick Blaser to Jesse Klimek. Rio Linda answered with its own 80-yard drive when Mikell scored on a one-yard run.

On Roseville’s second possession, receiver Matt Hack fumbled after catching a pass on a slant route, giving the ball back to the Knights. Mikell scored another touchdown on a swing pass from quarterback Jake Campbell. Roseville began to work on another drive, but Blaser was intercepted by Wesley Scobee in the end zone for a touchback.

Rio Linda kept the momentum going into the third quarter when Campbell carried the ball himself for a 58-yard touchdown run. Roseville answered with a 51-yard touchdown run by Tyler Renville.

The Knights’ offense was on fire from there on out, with touchdown runs of 26 and 95 yards by Mikell to shut the door. Blaser would score a rushing touchdown, but it had no effect on the outcome.

Coach Larry Cunha said after the game that it would simply take, “practice, practice, practice” for Roseville to improve their game.

Roseville will host Pleasant Grove next Friday night.

JV Report: Roseville dominated the Rio Linda JV team 43-6. The Tiger offense combined for 324 total yards and the defense recorded five sacks.[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
