From the Rio Linda Elverta Recreation and Parks District:

The Rio Linda Elverta Recreation and Park District is taking proactive measures to address the drought conditions our State is currently facing.

Those measures include:

  • Reducing the District’s watering schedule to two days per week.
  • Checking facility irrigation systems on a regular basis to insure proper coverage.
  • Insuring all sprinkler heads and valves are in good repair and eliminating any leaks.
  • Identifying District maintained irrigated areas that will be allowed to go brown.
  • Working cooperatively with the Rio Linda Elverta Community Water District to conduct water audits for each District facility in an effort to identify additional water conservation measures.
  • Reducing overall water consumption by 36%.
  • Increasing aeration to achieve increased water permeability.
  • Taking District vehicles to a car wash where water is recycled.
  • Remodeling our community center with water efficient restroom receptacles.
  • Identifying areas for turf removal, replacing it with xeriscape or mulch.

The District will make every effort to keep the most heavily used parks as green as possible. Those parks have been identified as Babe Best Park, Westside Park, Community Center Park and Depot Park. The drought is a statewide challenge that can be managed if we all work together and do our part!
