Guest Post: Mike Heller, Rio Linda Elverta Recreation and Parks District Administrator

It’s Hot, but the Rio Linda Aquatic Center is cool.

Do you enjoy the parks and recreation services provided by the Rio Linda Elverta Recreation and Park District? Do you want to see the Rio Linda Elverta community retain all of their available land so that they can be programmed for services?

If you answered yes to these questions then please consider joining your neighbors at the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors Chambers on Wednesday, March 6 at 5:30pm while the Rio Linda Elverta Recreation and Park District fights for its land against the City of Sacramento.

The City of Sacramento is attempting to annex and detach a portion of land that is referred to as the ‘Panhandle.’ They are attempting to take the ‘Handle’ portion of the Panhandle which is currently undeveloped. The area in question is south of Elkhorn to Del Paso with East Levee road as the eastern boundary and the North Natomas community on the west.

Once developed there will be an Elementary School and a Middle/High School. There will also be new parks in the area. The City would like to develop the land and maintain and service all of the parks.

Currently, this land is within the Park District Boundaries and is adjacent to an area that provides us with the majority of funding for our general fund. As you all know, the Rio Linda Elverta Recreation and Park District is better suited to provide both Park and Recreation Services to the residents of our District.

Northbrook Park, Antelope

We are asking you to assist us in this battle with the City. Please come out to the Public Hearing on Wednesday, March 6th at 5:30pm at the County Board of Supervisors Chambers at 700 H St. in Sacramento.

The Park District will be bringing a van down to the meeting and is offering rides to the first 5 people who RSVP. We will be leaving the Park District at 4:30pm on March 6th.

For more information, or to RSVP, please contact Mike Heller at mheller@rleparks.com or at 916-991-5929.

Thank you,

Michael Heller
District Administrator
