A Celebration of Achievement and Community: We Are TR Foundation Luncheon Highlights Student Success

The air buzzed with excitement and pride at today’s We Are TR Foundation “State of the District” luncheon, held at the Point West Doubletree by Hilton. The event, a powerful testament to the dedication and talent within the Twin Rivers Unified School District, showcased the remarkable achievements of students and the unwavering support of the foundation.

The Rio Linda High School Jazz Band welcomed us to the event.

From the moment guests entered, they were greeted by the vibrant energy of cheerleaders from every school in the district. The Rio Linda High School cheer squad welcomed us at the front steps of the hotel. We were treated to a performance by the Grant Drum Line from Grant Union High School, their rhythmic beats setting a celebratory tone. The Grant Union Criminal Justice Academy students then led the audience in a heartfelt Pledge of Allegiance.

The Grant Union High School Drumline performed for us in the event space.

Dr. Steve Martinez, Superintendent of Twin Rivers Unified, took to the podium to welcome attendees and outline the purpose of the gathering. His address, punctuated by an insightful video presentation highlighting the “TRUSD Present and Future,” underscored the district’s commitment to progress and innovation.

The luncheon was not just a platform for speeches; it was a stage for student talent to shine. The soulful melodies of the Mariachi Ensemble from Foothill High School filled the room, showcasing the rich cultural diversity within our schools. Later, the vibrant colors and intricate footwork of the Ballet Folklorico dancers from Grant Union High School captivated the audience, earning thunderous applause.

The program also celebrated the diverse artistic expressions nurtured in our district. The Creative Connections Arts Academy students delivered a moving performance with their Ukulele Ensemble, while the sweet voices of the Las Palmas Elementary Choir resonated with warmth and joy.

A highlight of the afternoon was the presentation of scholarships by Ryan DiGiulio, President of the We Are TR Foundation. The smiles on the faces of the deserving students spoke volumes, reflecting the life-changing impact of these awards. These scholarships, made possible by the generosity of the community, will pave the way for these students to pursue their dreams and contribute to a brighter future.

Carter Williams of Rio Linda High School was one of the scholarship recipients.

Dr. Steve Martinez returned to the stage to recognize the invaluable contributions of the district’s partner organizations, acknowledging their crucial role in supporting student success. The event concluded with the announcement of the silent auction winners, the proceeds of which will further bolster the foundation’s efforts.

The We Are TR Foundation “State of the District” luncheon was more than just a fundraising event; it was a powerful celebration of the talent, dedication, and spirit that thrives within the Twin Rivers Unified School District. It was a reminder of the vital role the community plays in empowering our students and shaping the future of Rio Linda and beyond. As attendees left, they carried with them a renewed sense of pride and a shared commitment to supporting the We Are TR Foundation in their mission to provide enriching opportunities for every student in the district.
