County Offers No-Cost Spay and Neuter

For the second year in a row, Sacramento County is offering free spay and neuter services for cats in both the incorporated and unincorporated areas of the County.

As part of the Bradshaw Animal Shelter’s efforts to reduce animal overpopulation, the “Spay it Forward” program received $50,000 in County funds. Medical services will be provided by the Animal Spay and Neuter Clinic. The program will remain in place until the funds have been expended.

“These spay and neuter services are available to both owned and feral cats, and we’re hoping that offering them for free will motivate folks who want to do the right thing for these animals,” said David Dickinson, Director of the Sacramento County Bradshaw Animal Shelter. “Through the Spay it Forward program, we believe we can significantly cut down on the population of unwanted litters and lost or stray cats in the Sacramento region.”
Surgeries are available by appointment only at either of the two Animal Spay and Neuter Clinic locations:
  • Sacramento location: next to the Bradshaw Animal Shelter at 3839 Bradshaw Road, Sacramento, 95827; 916-368-7314
  • Auburn location: 3524 KOA Way, Auburn, 95602; 530-889-8800
Cat owners are encouraged to call either clinic as soon as possible, as spaces will fill up quickly.
“Our goal with this program is to improve the quality of life for animals and people in the Sacramento area, as well as increase live-release rates at the Bradshaw Animal Shelter,” said Dickinson.
The free Spay it Forward program does not include animal rescue groups or 501(c)(3) organizations.
Donations to the clinic, while not required, are gratefully accepted for the ASN program. All donations are returned to the community in the form of free surgery and/or vaccinations.
