Most Read Stories of 2021

What a mixed bag of stories we had for 2021.

Happy New Year from John and ViAnn and Sara and Mike.

We had COVID going away, then coming back with Delta and Omicron, We had Business openings and closings, we had some crimes, we had Cameron Skattebo finally able to excite us at Hornet Field, and we had the return of the Country Faire and the Christmas Light Parade.

And here we are now, cruising into the new year eager to begin working on 2022, which looks to be a very interesting and pivotal year for our community.

As is our annual year-end tradition, here are our top 10 Most-Read stories of the past 12 months.

  1. Teens Arrested For Alleged Attempt To Murder Mother, Brother
  2. One Dead, Two Injured in Elverta Road Crash
  3. Caltrans to Hold Clean California Free Dump Day in Rancho Cordova & Sacramento
  4. What’s Happening? Rio Linda Suffers Two Major Crimes in Two Days
  5. Elverta Road Accident Victim Identified
  6. Elverta Man Arrested as part of Catalytic Converter Theft Ring
  7. Tik Tok Challenge Challenges Teachers and Admin Staff
  8. Bad Santa, Or How Country Faire Volunteers Rescued This Year’s Event from a Dangerous and Irresponsible Amusement Operator
  9. Granite’s is up for Sale
  10. Rio Linda Man sentenced for gross vehicular manslaughter

As an indication of the growth of The Mess, the top 6 stories of this year are all in the top 20 of all time… and we have stories in the database going back to September 7, 2009.

We reached a magic number of 20 sponsors and advertisers, including our most recent sponsors, Reel Bait and Tackle, Creekside Diner, and Barnett Heating and Air, and we’ve retained some old favorites like A-1 Storage, ServPro, and our oldest sponsor, Lisa Gregory at Gregory Realty Group. We thank all of our sponsors for helping pay the bills, but we are grateful to our oldest sponsors for seeing the value in supporting local news and sticking with us for many years.

And thank all of you for supporting the Rio Linda Messenger. This has been a watershed year for donations from our readers. Thank you all very much for helping out. You can’t possibly know how much we appreciate that.

Please have a happy and safe new year, and come back for even better coverage of our community in 2022, as we make our New Years Resolution to get better at providing you the information on the important issues that affect our community, the issues that you NEED to know about and won’t hear from anyone else.

Happy New Year from all of us at the Rio Linda Messenger.

Our community faces unprecedented economic disruption, and the future of many small businesses is under threat, including our own. It takes time and resources to provide this service. We are a small family-owned operation, and we will do everything in our power to keep it going. But today more than ever before, we will depend on your support to continue. Support the Rio Linda Messenger today. You rely on us to stay informed and we depend on you to make our work possible.
