Final Service and Closure set for RL Methodist Church

President Bill Clinton visited the Methodist church in January of 1995, after floods had ravaged Northern California, Rio Linda included. He is standing here with Congressman Vic Fazio, Wilma Dyer and an unidentified woman.

In a letter penned by Sue Davis, she announces that the Rio Linda Community United Methodist Church will stop operations at the end of 2021.

Membership and worship attendance has fallen off drastically. Without an appropriate level of income, it is impossible to keep the church open and operational, especially with so few people in leadership positions.

The members of the church voted on November 30th to wrap up operations and close the church.

The final worship service will be on December 26 at 11:00 a.m. The community is also invited to worship at the church on any of the remaining Sundays in December, as well as on Christmas Eve at 7:00 p.m.

Services on the 11th and 18th begin at 11am.

The letter reads:

Dear Rio Linda Community,
On November 30th members of the Rio Linda Community United Methodist Church met to vote on the church closure. This was a very difficult decision to make. Our membership and worship attendance have dropped significantly over the past several years and it is impossible to keep the church running with so few, especially with so few in leadership positions. It has been decided that our final worship service will be on December 26 at 11:00 a.m. We realize that is the day after Christmas but we hope you will be able to attend. You are also welcome to worship with us any of the remaining Sundays in December at 11:00 as well as on Christmas Eve at 7:00 p.m.
