Longtime Rio Linda Resident Jane Adell Royer Passes Away

Jane Adell Royer, a beloved member of the Rio Linda community for over four decades, passed away on January 10, 2025. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, and service.

Born on November 16, 1946, in St. Joseph, Michigan, Jane’s life journey took her from the Midwest to Arkansas and then to California, where she met her husband, Rev. Robert (Bob) Royer, at a camp meeting at the tender age of 14. They married on February 22, 1964, and their life together was one of adventure, service, and deep commitment to their faith.

Jane’s life was marked by her unwavering devotion to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She received the gift of the Holy Ghost on May 30, 1956, a moment that shaped her life’s path. Her love for her family—her husband, children, and grandchildren—was a powerful force, second only to her love for God. She found immense joy in knowing her children walked in truth.

Jane and Bob’s journey took them from military bases in Texas and Missouri, where Jane supported her husband during his service in the Army, to Kansas, and finally to California in 1980, where they settled in Rio Linda. It was here, at The Church of Rio Linda, that Bob began his 45-year tenure as pastor, and Jane truly blossomed.

For 45 years, Jane poured her heart and soul into the Rio Linda community. She became a gifted storyteller, captivating audiences young and old with her enchanting tales that eloquently conveyed the love of Jesus Christ. Her stories, such as “He Took My Whipping,” “Barney’s Barrel,” and “Crosby the Cricket,” became cherished traditions within the church. Jane’s contributions extended beyond storytelling; she taught Sunday School, played the piano and organ, sang beautifully, prayed fervently, and selflessly cared for those around her.

Her culinary talents were also legendary. Known as the “Pie Lady,” she baked thousands of pies each year to support the church, eventually expanding her repertoire to over 40 varieties.

After retiring in 2023, Bob and Jane moved to Waxahachie, Texas, to be closer to family. Despite health challenges, Jane’s spirit remained strong. With the loving care of her daughter Rebecca, and the support of her family, she experienced a remarkable resurgence in her health, regaining her independence and joy in life.

Jane’s passing was sudden and unexpected, yet her life was a testament to a life lived in preparation for that final moment. She was ready.

Jane is survived by her husband, Rev. Robert (Bob) Royer; her children, Kenneth Royer (and his children, Anderson, Kendall, Carrigan, and Madeleine), Rebecca Franks (and husband, Jason), Rev. Jonathan Royer (and wife, Debbie, and children, Bethany, Delaney, and Benjamin), and Rev. Nathaniel Royer (and wife, Tina, and children, Benson, Adrian, and Claralea); her sisters, Judith Mitchell (and husband, Billy, and daughter, Sissy) and Jill Hill (and husband, Larry, and daughter, Lisa); and many other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Rev. Kenneth Robinson; her mother, Pauline Robinson; her niece, Melanie Mitchell Thennes; and her nephew, Mark Mitchell.

A memorial service was held Saturday, February 15th, 2025 at Higher Ground Apostolic Church.
