Rio Linda chase suspects remain in custody

Two Rio Linda men remained in custody Friday, a day after authorities said they broke into numerous vehicle and led police on a chase through Yuba County canals.William F. Ellsworth, 30 and James J. Brewer, 31, were arrested on Thursday after a lengthy chase through south Yuba County.

Linda-bomb-threat-img-031213“We’re still working on contacting the vehicle owners and determining the number of cars involved,” said Lt. Shaun Smith of the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department.

On Thursday, deputies said both men broke into at least seven vehicles. By Friday, that number had climbed to nine.

“We’ll probably be working on that information all weekend,” Smith said.

Deputies said the pair led deputies and officers on a long chase beginning around 11 a.m. Thursday. Their suspected getaway vehicle crash through a fence at the Olivehurst Public Utility District water treatment plant during the chase.

No one was injured.

Ellsworth was booked into the Yuba County Jail on $55,000 bail on suspicion of burglary and obstructing justice, evading law enforcement and possession of burglary tools.

A quick search reveals that Ellsworth was also arrested by the California Highway Patrol at 6:16 p.m. Feb. 4 on Riego Road on suspicion of driving a car without owner consent, receiving stolen property, and committing a felony while out on bail from a prior charge.

Brewer was booked on $25,000 bail on suspicion of possession of burglary tools.

Both men were still in custody Friday evening.

The Yuba County District Attorney’s Office was waiting to receive the case file Friday afternoon.

It was not clear when the duo would be arraigned.
